Prof. V. Mohan Kumar, who retired as Head of the Department of Physiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, in 2006, had done extensive research on neural regulation of sleep. Later, he worked as Visiting Professor, and Emeritus Scientist at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, where he established the Comprehensive Centre for Sleep Disorders. He formed the Indian Society for Sleep Research, and is the founder member of Asian Sleep Research Society. He was the first Asian to be elected as the Vice-President of the World Federation of Sleep Research Societies. He is the patron of the Springer journal Sleep and Vigilance.
